Everyone knows that the best indicator of a healthy horse on the inside, is a glowing, sleek coat on the outside. Equilume’s Performance Lighting products mimic a long summer’s day, stimulating seasonal hormones, including prolactin, that allow your horse to produce a shiny summer coat.
The biologically effective light delivered by our smart Stable Lights and mobile Light Masks ensures that melatonin levels are sufficiently suppressed so as to maintain a slick summer coat into the winter months, while also optimizing the horse’s muscle response to exercise.

At the heart of everything we do is to develop science based lighting solutions backed by research that allow animals to live and behave more naturally, so that they are healthier and perform better.
Winter: After 8 weeks of extended photoperiod (16 hours of light, 8 hours of darkness) the coat will shed early, to a summer short coat
Summer: In order to prolong the summer coat, day length must be maintained at 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness, from the summer solstice onwards. Light should be fitted prior to July 21st (Northern Hemisphere ) and January 21st (Southern Hemisphere) in order for the summer coat to be maintained.
It is recommended that every horse have at least a 6-8 week break from artificial lighting. This is necessary to reset the horse’s internal annual hair shedding clock. Fastest results are achieved when horses are blanketed and kept warm.
